Origin Story
We're a bunch of software nerds. We built a software platform (Awsm) that makes it easy for consumer brands to reward customers, influencers, and loyal fans with ownership in the company. We believe in sharing the wealth with the people who are helping your brand succeed.
We also like food.
One day we were discussing what kind of SWAG (shtuff we all get) to create to give to our customers, prospects, partners, etc. You know - the shirts, the hats, the cups, the chargers, etc etc. We wanted to do something unique, something memorable, something people would love.
So we decided to make sauce. We love sauce, and loved trying different sauces on burgers, wings, fries, chips, veggies, pizza - you name it, we've probably put sauce on it.
We made a bunch of batches and concoctions. Some were more BBQ-like, others were more tabasco-like, but our favorite blends were creamy mayo-based.
We finally found a mixture we loved! Kind of like a Ranch, kind of like a white fry sauce, but with a totally unique flavor we'd never tasted before. We put it on everything, and loved it on everything. We ate the whole batch and made some more.
We designed a label, bought some bottles on Amazon, and made a big batch to give away at some events. We called it Awsm Sauce.
It was a huge hit! People we gave it to took it home, shared it with their teams, and told their friends. We started getting texts and calls asking for more. And when we ran into people we'd met at previous events, they didn't ask about our software - they just wanted more sauce!
This started happening so much we had to figure out a way to start making the sauce at scale.
We finally did a trademark search and were sad (but not totally surprised) to find there already was an Awsm Sauce out there. So we had to come up with a different name if we were going to give the sauce to the masses.
ChickenDragon was born! We explored a lot of different names but we'd already been using the ChickenDragon icon (thanks to our talented designer), and the dot com was available, and cheap.
We spun up this simple website and are in the process of working with a large manufacturer to help us create a sealed, shelf-stable version (refrigerate after opening) that we can ship and we can get into stores and restaurants.
In the meantime, Sauce Claus (a nephew of one of the Founders coined this phrase) continues to travel around Utah taking sauce to all the good little boys and girls.
Many of the fans of the Original flavor started requesting a hot version, so we went back to the "lab" and played around with some ways to add some heat. The trick with heat is not adding too much so it overpowers the flavor. There's a delicate balance we had to find. We think we nailed it, and people who like a spicy sauce are loving the Fire flavor.
We're not just relying on amazing taste to make the sauce a success. We are practicing what we preach at Awsm, which is rewarding customers and loyal fans with real ownership in the sauce company.
We'll create a different post to explain that in detail - but the tldr; is we believe in sharing the success with all the people that help you get there.
How far can the ChickenDragon fly? Only time will tell...
